As discussed earlier, shelter is the third most basic necessity of man kind. House is very important for all the people. Once upon a time there were a lot of individual houses and there was a concept of joint family with all the relatives living together in a same house. But, after the advancement of technology, there were the availability of jobs in different locations which were at a long distance from their home. Daily travel to their home from the place where they are working was very difficult. So, the joint family has been split up and the requirement of separate homes and the number of houses increased rapidly.
We can say urbanization also as one of the reasons, looking out for better jobs and facilities in urban areas, rather than a struggling life in village has made people to migrate from their homes. At the initial stages of migration, there were probability of finding out individual houses or building the individual houses. But, the population kept on increasing exponentially and the necessity to accommodate large number of population in a lesser area became mandatory. This can also be stated as density of population. The density of population started to decrease and the requirement of flats became need of the hour.
Yes, We agree with the fact that flat is able to accommodate a large number of people rather than individual house and the diversification is people is possible in flats rather than the individual houses. But, the main problem arises in maintenance. The maintenance of individual houses costs lesser than the amount required for maintaining the flats. The water supply needed for the flats would be more than the individual houses. There may be parking facilities provided by flats, but the soil is highly degraded by construction of flats rather than individual houses. The people can have their own freedom if they stay in individual house rather than the one that is prevailing in flats.
There would be lot of restrictions of people staying in flats if they are tenants. But, the individual houses might have lesser restrictions. With respect to current scenario, it is definitely not possible to build individual houses as the cost of constructing individual houses for an individual is more than him buying a flat. On my opinion Individual houses are the better ones with the amenities available but taking the present scenario into consideration the flats stand a step higher than the individual houses.
